On a crisp Saturday morning, volunteers gathered at Wakefield Kirkgate Station for another productive session with LonGBoaT Wakefield. The day was marked by an enthusiastic commitment to transforming our railway station into a welcoming community space.
Vice Chair of Trustees, Chris, teamed up with volunteer Theo to relocate the final two planters, strategically placing them to enhance the station's island platform. This move is a pivotal step in creating a vibrant garden atmosphere, making the station a more inviting place for all who pass through.

Meanwhile, our Community Champion Adam was hard at work enhancing the Community Gallery. With meticulously designed window graphics that tell the story of our project, Adam added a distinctive identity to the space. He also completed the planting of the final two pots, complementing the four beautifully crafted in March.

Generosity shone through as we received a donation of four wheelbarrows filled with bark, which will be instrumental in maintaining moisture levels in our planters: a crucial element in sustaining our greenery.
Off the station platforms, Theo and Chris took charge of clearing the LonGBoaT Hub courtyard, making several trips to dispose of old vegetation at the local recycling centre. Their efforts ensure that our community hub remains a clean and inviting space for all visitors.

Additional tasks included reinstating the charming brass band music in the subway, enhancing the Ashley Jackson art murals, conducting a thorough litter pick, and tidying up various areas around the station. Each task contributes to our goal of creating a safe, beautiful environment that reflects the pride we have in our community.

If you're inspired by our efforts and wish to join us in making a difference, we warmly invite you to get involved.
