LonGBoaT Wakefield is proud to host one of Wakefield Council’s Heritage Network Consultation Events at Wakefield Kirkgate Station on Saturday 8th March 2025, from 10:30am to 12:30pm. This important discussion is part of the ‘Our Stories’ project, which is helping to develop a new Heritage Network for the Wakefield district.
What is the Wakefield Heritage Network?
The new Heritage Network is designed to bring together individuals and groups who are involved in researching, promoting, celebrating, and protecting local heritage. Whether you are part of a historical society, a community group, or simply passionate about preserving Wakefield’s past, your voice is important in shaping how we work together to support local heritage.
Building on Wakefield Council’s new heritage framework, these consultation sessions will explore:
What a Heritage Network should look like
How groups and individuals can contribute to and support the network
What resources, partnerships, and support are needed to preserve and promote local heritage
How to Get Involved
We encourage anyone with an interest in Wakefield’s heritage to attend this consultation event. If you would like to take part, please book your place via the online form:
If you are unable to attend the session at Wakefield Kirkgate Station, there are other opportunities to join the conversation:
Wednesday 5 March, 4-6 PM – Pontefract Library
Wednesday 19 March, 6:30-8:30 PM – Online Session
Thursday 27 March, 10 AM-12 Noon – Queen's Mill, Castleford
Thursday 3 April, 10 AM-12 Noon – South Elmsall Library

Why LonGBoaT Wakefield is Involved
At LonGBoaT Wakefield, we are committed to celebrating and preserving local heritage, particularly through our work with the Wakefield Kirkgate Station Adoption Project. As one of the first LGBT+ organisations to adopt a railway station, we recognise the importance of making heritage inclusive and accessible for all communities. Hosting this event allows us to help shape a network that values and represents the diverse stories of Wakefield’s past and present.
We look forward to welcoming you on 8th March 2025 for an engaging and collaborative discussion on the future of heritage in our district.
